The Hidden Invasion of Iraq PDF Print E-mail

A book with a new angle on the conflict by Paulo Casaca

Five years, hundreds of thousands of lost lives, five million plus displaced, in spite of the considerable amount of literature, the fundamental questions remain to be answered.

Yet, as the author argues, the right questions have not been yet rightly equated, as the fact that behind the formal invasion of Iraq a much more sinister invasion took place has been underplayed by most of the observers.

This book argues that most of the existing analyses overemphasize the responsibilities of the political establishment that took the decision to invade Iraq, its tendency to substitute crude military power for informed political action, the operational severe shortcomings of the occupation plans or its blunt ignorance on the basics of the region.

Behind the front lines of the US lead occupying army, thousands of operatives of the Badr Brigade - Iraqi section of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) - occupied most of the country, and steadily took over the political command of the country.

Although the Iraqi sections of the Iran sponsored Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have long been identified by the expert terrorism literature as the earliest examples of the religious, suicidal, mass terrorism (very often targeting the US), the West's (mainly the US and UK) political establishment - and in particular some of the main figures in key Administration positions, some NGOs and think-tanks - made a mass campaign in which the IRGC was presented as "freedom fighters", as it had earlier been the case with some of the worse fanatics in Afghanistan.

Furthermore, making a review of the literature regarding Saddam Hussein's famous Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) and links with international terrorism, the author discloses the systematic presence of people working in tandem with the Iranian authorities and even the very same core organisers of the 1985 "Iran-contra affair".

Hence, the West invited the oldest network of international terrorism to take hold of Iraq in order to supposedly destroy the WMD and annihilate international terrorism.  This, among various other factors, gave the indispensable leverage to the Iranian theocracy to proceed openly with its real WMD programme.

As it is now known, the West negotiated the main aspects of the invasion of Iraq with Teheran, but much more importantly has been consistently misunderstanding the dangers posed by religious fanaticism for over a century now.

Reporting on his travel and missions across the region and Iraq in particular, Paulo Casaca shows a country subject to ethnic/religious cleansing and plain genocide, and an immense desire for democracy. A country in which the establishment incompetently betrayed the rule of law. Mr. Casaca argues for a full and thorough public inquiry on the Iraqi tragedy.

A portuguese version of the book - A OUTRA INVASÃO DO IRAQUE - was released 3/17/2009.
